Cupping and Gua Sha

Releasing tension, restoring flow

Cupping and Gua Sha are time-honoured techniques in Chinese medicine that help move stagnation, ease muscle tension, and support the body’s natural detoxification.

Cupping uses glass cups that create a gentle suction on the skin, lifting the tissues beneath. This draws fresh blood and Qi into areas that feel tight or stuck, releasing old stagnation and bringing a deep wave of relaxation through the muscles. It’s most often used on the large muscles of the back and shoulders, though it can be adapted for many areas.

Gua Sha uses a smooth-edged tool to stimulate the skin, encouraging heat, blood circulation, and the release of tension from deeper tissues. It can be especially helpful for tight muscles, early-stage colds, or general immune support.

These therapies are carefully woven into your acupuncture sessions when needed, offering another way to support your body’s natural movement toward vitality and ease.
